CAPI Gears Up For AAPI Convention In 2009

The 2008 CAPI event (Central Florida Association of Physicians from the Indian subcontinent) was a big success, with a record turnout and well attended educational seminars. More than 250 doctors gathered at The Sheraton Hotel in downtown Orlando for the Annual Convention and CME conference for the physicians from the Indian subcontinent.

This conference was also attended by many of the officers of the national group – American Association of Physicians from India (AAPI) who came especially to meet the local doctors as the next US wide conference of this major group will be held in Orlando at the Dolphin Resort in June. AAPI treasurer Dr. Kumar praised Dr. Jahagirdar, Dr. Pillai & Dr. Panara for the hard work they have done to make AAPI convention 2009 at Dolphin the best convention ever. Many local doctors are working very hard to make the 2009 national conference a grand success.

Amongst the attendees were Mr. Lars Houmann - Florida Hospital CEO, FMA president elect Dr. James Dolan, AAPI president elect Dr. Vinod Shah, AAPI BOT chair Dr. Rajendra Gupta, AAPI charitable foundation chair Dr. Kishan Aggarwal, AAPI treasurer Dr. Narendra Kumar, AAPI South west region director Dr. Jayesh Shah, and Dr. Ravi Jahagirdar 2009 AAPI convention chairman.

The event started at noon with registration and the seminars on various topics that covered the full spectrum of health issues ranging from Domestic Violence to the latest techniques in robotic surgery. Orlando Health System was in charge of the CME accreditation and the lectures for CME were moderated by Dr. Mehul Dixit & Dr. Buchi Reddy. The educational20part of this event was followed by a social hour for the guest s to meet and greet.

The dinner and official speeches by executive members commenced at 7:00PM. Dr. Aravind Pillai, the president & founder of CAPI welcomed the guests of honor and gave a report of the activities of CAPI 2008. He urged the members to register for AAPI 2009 convention. AAPI president elect Dr. Shah talked about AAPI 2010 vision – “importance of enrolling more members” as strength lies in numbers. Mr. Glad Kurian the executive officer was M. C for the evening. The Florida hospital CEO spoke on the problems facing health care industry. Dr. Dolan was eloquent on how doctors should keep their freedom to practice good medicine. AAPI leaders spoke about the great organization and what it stands for. Dr. Aggarwal elaborated the charitable activities AAPI has undertaken all over the world. Dr. Amish Parikh the president elect gave vote of thanks. Dr. Pillai released CAPI souvenir and directory. After delicious dinner, the group enjoyed two hours of music & dance program by Bombay troupe arranged by Satyam Shaw.
